A Call from my phone @ Chollas Lake Park
Edmund Burke theorized about the state of the Sublime, which featured the vast scales of architecture and the endless orders of the universe, ultimately resolving into terror and the fear of death. But this painting follows more Aristotle’s view of the earth which allows us to behold what is always becoming (kinesis). Here the Eucalyptus trees shed their bark in a carnival of colors; they can also emit an (organic) Volatile Organic Compound, which has induced the speculation that it inhibits borers, bugs or pests. The scene has been under printed with the vessels of Douglas Fir blocks, but many scaled vessels inhabit in a panorama of fog, marine layers, reflections, borrowed windows of trees, and rippled glazes of water that evolve over time.
Canvas only
4’ x 3’ x 1.5” deep
Oil-based under printing of Douglas Fir blocks
Over painting and glazing of oil paint
$4500
