A Shade of Degas visits the San Diego Zoo
Degas’ ballerinas have nothing on the stems of flamingoes. In fact, the stem you see is all ankle. Its knee keeps secretly in the body, where the rotation is hidden, allowing one leg or other a leisurely horizontal. Such ease shames the ballerina. Their flaming goes and comes partly from a diet of shrimp and algae. This day at the zoo began gray and rainy, but the weather cleared, to support the San Diego Chamber of Commerce.
