woods block print

final-woods- block-2blocks-fps

This wood relief block print has been inspired by some 20 years summering in Maine, mostly in Acadia Park. The “woods” immediately involved are of two kinds, end-grain Douglas fir and clear pine. The first print layer is made from a panel fabricated by hand, assembled from small end-grain Douglas fir blocks. On top of this base print, a clear pine 1 x 12 board has been carved to suggest the intense vertical life of the woods, and printed half in black ink and half in white ink. A variation in pressure was applied by hand when printing the Douglas fir, to suggest the filtered light of the woods.
